U.S. Federal Court Rejects Emergency Challenge; Tennessee's Cryptocurrency ATM Ban Takes Effect
Svmuu News: A U.S. federal court has refused to suspend Tennessee’s cryptocurrency ATM ban ahead of its July 1 effective date; Public Chapter 766 remains enforceable while the constitutional lawsuit filed by CoinFlip and Private IT Corporation is pending.The law stipulates that intentionally installing, permitting the placement of, placing, or operating a virtual currency self-service terminal in Tennessee constitutes a Class A misdemeanor. Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti stated that cryptocurrency ATMs are tools used by scammers to target vulnerable Tennessee residents and are rarely used for legitimate purposes.CoinFlip operates more than 5,500 Bitcoin ATMs across 48 U.S. states and multiple countries, while Private IT Corporation is a small operator that joined the lawsuit after the Tennessee ban threatened its local business.
