The EU Escalates Its Investigation into Meta; Its Platforms May Face Hefty Fines
Svmuu News: According to The Wall Street Journal, the European Union has stated that Meta has failed to adequately protect users from the addictive design features of Instagram and Facebook, and the EU is therefore escalating its investigation; the company could face massive fines. The European Commission released preliminary findings on Friday, concluding that Meta has violated the EU’s landmark Digital Services Act. The law requires the world’s largest online platforms to assess and mitigate risks. If these findings are confirmed, each of Meta’s platforms could face fines of up to 6% of its global revenue.
