Terra Classic USD (USTC) was once an algorithmic stablecoin on the Terra blockchain, designed to maintain a 1:1 peg to the U.S. dollar. However, the “de-pegging” incident in May 2022 caused its value to plummet and led to the failure of its stabilization mechanism. Currently, USTC’s supply management relies primarily on community-led burn initiatives, with the aim of reducing the circulating supply and supporting its re-pegging. Despite the community’s numerous efforts, USTC continues to face challenges regarding liquidity and market performance, and it remains uncertain whether it will be able to restore its peg to the U.S. dollar.
